The Search for Truth or Lies?

Cabrillo Lighthouse, Pacific Coast

A lighthouse is designed to provide a signal that helps ships reach land safely during a storm. Knowing that a lighthouse is continually flashing bright light gives sailors hope. Once land is reached, an anchor is used to secure the ship so it doesn’t drift away. Truth is like that. When you know the One who is the Truth, Jesus, you can get through a storm, because He is your lighthouse. He will show you the way that will get you safely through life. Eternity will be your reward. Making a commitment to follow Jesus is like setting down an anchor to keep you from drifting away.

So, why would anyone choose to look for a lie instead of truth?

Well, there is a catch to following Jesus. It actually isn’t as easy as following the light in a storm because eventually the storm will subside. Clear skies take the place of thick gray clouds. All is calm and the anchor is lifted back into the boat.

That’s all good, but there’s more.

People forget that they followed the light to land safely or that they made a commitment. Eternity seems so far away. So people decide they want to be the captain of their own ship and make all the rules. They forget God’s faithfulness through that storm. They want what they want. And they want a lie that will ease their conscience.

It’s true that the truth will set you free. But, the truth can also condemn you. Who wants to be bothered with a noisy conscience?

For example, life feels complicated for Sharon. She has a husband and two children, and she once made a serious commitment to Jesus after a life changing experience. She was set free from her addictions. But now, when all is calm, she remembers with longing what it was like to hang around with her friends and party all night. She thinks a lot about having a boyfriend.

Oh to be free again!

So, she looks for lies to set her free (from her conscience). I don’t believe in God because there is no God. That’s usually the first lie. Because if there is no God, then living a moral life is unnecessary. More lies. My husband only cares for the children, not me anymore. He never wants me to have any fun. All he does is watch TV. Besides what’s wrong with a simple night out with the girls? Don’t I have the right to be the captain of my own ship?

The truth is not welcomed. Sharon forgot the night she passed out in her own vomit. And those long nights in jail. How many people will be hurt this time if she follows lies?

When the addictions were choking the life out of her, Sharon repented. Jesus was her lighthouse. But, the storm passed and life was good.

This is the true test of faithfulness.

Those who insist on their way are actually seeking glory for themselves. They don’t want the truth. So a lie comes along that they want to believe. The deception is welcomed and entertained. They are looking for a lie that fits into their own desire to be god. So they fall, crash.

They will perish because they did not welcome and love the truth so as to be saved. And so God sends the power of error to work in them so the they believe what is false. The result is that all who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in sin, will be condemned. 2Thessalonians 2:10b-12.

Seek the truth when life is hard. And when life is good. Live a life filled with gratitude. Stay with the Truth. Jesus will give you all the strength you need to stand with integrity, to live in the truth. Let God be God, because you are not.

Life is full of trouble all over the world at this time. Jesus will show us the way. He is our lighthouse. We will get though this storm. Revival will come. Remember Him when life is good again.

I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me. Philippians 4:13

Throughout my life Jesus has been the Lighthouse in my storms. Healing Light in my infirmities, path of Light in my dark trails always a Light in any storm or trial. Yes even in the darkest night, with only one little star it brings Light and direction to lead you home safely. Thank You Father that You provide all the Light we need through Jesus.

Thank you Lula, The Holy Spirit continues to clear the gray fog of compromise and reveal the Truth, we either choose Truth and Life or we choose Lies and destruction.
